SUBURBS OF PORT
Although Port Macquarie is around the 9th largest place in New South Wales with a population of around 50,000 in the town and around 75000 in the municipality it is not deemed a city and as such does not have “official” suburbs.
Port does however have well defined localities all of which are within the Port Macquarie town limits and the postcode 2444. Many of these localities have been coined by developers, agents and locals over the years and have become accepted as our unofficial suburbs. For example our Hastings area is not an area by the Hastings River but a residential area which developed around Hastings Public School almost 30 years ago.
EASTPORT VERSUS WESTPORT
Long ago the locals divided the town into just two localities Eastport and Westport, and these terms are still in common use today.
EASTPORT is generally the beach side of town consisting of all the area east of the Kooloonbung Creek running from Town Beach to Lighthouse Beach. In the old days EASTPORT was definitely considered the better side of town with the prime real estate areas, but over the ensuing years that has changed.
WESTPORT of course is all the area of town to the WEST of Kooloonbung Creek. WESTPORT was once the budget real estate area of town but with the advent of developments in the precinct such as the canals (Settlement Shores),
Settlement City Shopping Centre, Panthers and the Base Hospital, it is no longer considered the poor relation to EASTPORT and nowadays includes brilliant and vibrant areas in which to live.
The aerial shot shows Kooloonbung Creek flowing into the Hastings River dividing the town into Eastport and Westport.

SOVEREIGN HILLS
Sovereign Hills is a newcomer and is being developed as a satellite city to Port Macquarie on its western outskirts towards the intersection of the Oxley Highway and Pacific Highway. Sovereign Hills is to be a fully planned residential township complete with its own shopping centre, commercial area, parks and gardens and retirement and aged care facilities. Much of the infrastructure is already under construction with a project home display village underway and land sales commencing. Already in place on a 15 hectare site is St Josephs Regional College Campus which opened in 2009
We have identified around 20 “Suburbs” that locals and local agents use to describe our localities. We've included a list and a brief description of them all but if you'd like more details call in, email or phone anytime.
